Ignacio Mataix, General Director of ITP: "Our turbines will be in one out of every two large aircraft"

With only 25 years in existence, Industria de Turbo Propulsores (ITP) has managed to get off the ground and position themselves among the ten largest global manufacturers of components for aircraft engines. The Basque group is a partner in the major commercial aviation programmes and over the next twenty years, "one out of every two transatlantic aircraft (A380, A350 XWB and Boeing Dreamliner) will fly using our turbines" thanks to its participation in Rolls-Royce Trent engines, pointed out its chief executive Ignacio Mataix (Madrid, 1962).

As a competitive advantage in a global market, Mataix, who is also chairman of HEGAN, stressed that they are one of only two European companies capable of undertaking the design, development and manufacture of a module, which means "between 12% and 16% of the engine".

This potential allows the turbine manufacturer to be the owner of the programme for that engine throughout its life, i.e. ITP will always decide where parts are made. The management of ITP highlights the fact that this is a guarantee for the future, as aeronautical programmes have about 40 years of life: to the five years for developing engine you have to add another 15 years for manufacturing and about 20 years for supplying parts.
